Goodbye Fearne

Today was Fearne Cotton’s last show on Radio 1. She’s been there for 6 years, in which she’s hosted a majority of Live Lounge sessions. She’s pregnant with her second child and said she feels like it’s time to move on to other things.

I’ve listened to Fearne on the radio for a while now, from the beginning of my broadcasting interest really and looking back she really is an idol for me.

She’s worked on TV, presenting children’s shows on GMTV and CBBC, and then music shows such as Top of the Pops. I remember since watching TOTP back when Busted were guests on the show and thinking how fun that job would have been – presenting and seeing band performances too!

She then moved to radio in 2005, where she began presenting early Friday mornings with Reggie Yates on Radio 1, and later the Chart Show. In 2009, she took over the weekday mid-morning show which she’s hosted ever since.

She’s been a voice heard for many years and by many people and I know I am only one of many that are sad to see her go. Artists have been sending messages on Twitter all day, thanking Fearne for her support of them and their bands.

Here’s what Radio 1’s Newsbeat have written.

I can only hope to have a career like Fearne’s in the future!
